Sporting Programs
Sporting Schools - At Fowler Road School we apply to run Sporting Schools programs on a termly basis. Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools to increase children's participation in sport, and to connect them with community sporting opportunities. With their involvement, Fowler Road School is provided with greater delivery of nationally endorsed products supported by national sporting organisations and endorsed coaches that also support the school’s curriculum.
National Rugby League partnership - At Fowler Road School, we have a partnership with a variety National Rugby League (NRL) Clubs. This has prompted a mentoring program at Fowler Road School whereby rising NRL stars work within our classrooms to support programs that promote physical activity, education, and career pathways. These mentors serve as positive role models for our students; promote physical health and wellbeing; develop important life skills such as leadership, goal setting, communication, and teamwork; and provide cultural connection and identity affirmation within our school community.
School Sports Unit - School Swimming and Water Safety Program - At Fowler Road School, we partake in the Department of Education School Swimming Scheme, engaging all students in an intensive, two-week learn-to-swim and water safety education program annually. The program aims to develop water confidence, basic water safety and survival skills to students by focusing on essential swimming strokes, water safety rules, identifying hazards, and personal survival skills.
Incursions, Excursions and School Camp
Incursions, Excursions and School Camp
At Fowler Road School, we believe learning happens both inside and outside the classroom. Our incursions, excursions and opportunities to participate in school camp give students the chance to explore new environments, build real-world skills, and create lasting memories. At Fowler Road School excursions are an important part of how we support student growth both academically and personally.
Education-based excursions - At Fowler Road School, we connect directly to what students are learning in class. They give students hands-on experiences that make lessons more engaging and meaningful. From museums and cultural sites to environmental programs and community visits, these trips bring learning to life.
Reward excursions -At Fowler Road School, we celebrate and encourage positive behaviour, attendance, and effort at school. Students who show responsibility, respect, and kindness have the opportunity to take part in fun outings that recognise their commitment to learning and our school values.
School camp - At Fowler Road School, we partner with The Great Aussie Bush Camp to provide an annual adventure camp for our senior primary and high school students. This is a great opportunity for our students to step outside their comfort zone and engage in a variety of adventure activities and action-packed programs including the adrenaline pumping giant swing, flying fox, and power fan, to more relaxed options like canoeing and bushcraft. Engagement in this camp not only offers physical activity, it plays a crucial role in personal and mental growth, providing our students lasting benefits for emotional, social, and academic development.

Small group tuition
Our Approach to Instruction and Support at Fowler Road School
At Fowler Road School, our Tier 1 instruction is built on a strong foundation of high-quality, whole-class teaching. We embed Explicit Teaching practices to ensure all students experience systematic and structured learning opportunities.
As part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), we offer a Small Group Tuition (SGT) program as an evidence-based Tier 2 intervention. When students are identified as needing additional assistance, we enhance their Tier 1 learning through targeted Tier 2 Small Group Tuition sessions.
We recognise that Small Group Tuition is most effective when delivered as Tier 2 support in small groups, and where necessary, as Tier 3 one-on-one intervention.
SGT is a short-term, focused support program that provides literacy and numeracy tuition tailored for students requiring extra help, as identified through NAPLAN results or other department and school-based assessments.
At Fowler Road, our SGT program prioritises improving literacy outcomes, with a strong emphasis on Phonic Knowledge and Word Recognition to support student achievement.
Tiered learning support
Understanding Tiered Interventions at Our School
The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework supports educators in implementing evidence-based instructional practices across all learning environments and identifying students requiring more targeted supports, while monitoring the impact of instruction and intervention.
At Fowler Road school, we use a tiered intervention approach to support every student’s learning and wellbeing. This means we provide different levels of assistance based on each child’s individual needs.
· Tier 1 includes high-quality classroom teaching and universal support for all students.
· Tier 2 offers targeted small-group interventions for students who need extra help.
· Tier 3 provides intensive, individualised support for students with specific learning or wellbeing challenges.
Our goal is to ensure every student receives the right support to thrive and succeed. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
